Doomstar!
The End Of The World - DOOMSTAR! from pointy ears on Vimeo.
So excited about Doomstar's new video for their unreleased song, End of the World. It was made from an old nuclear propaganda cartoon by my dear friend Spenser Gralla.
You can download their latest album, Rainbow Bloodsucker for just $5 here... and I recommend you do.
End of summer...

Gary Coles-Christensen
So I'm not a huge fan of floor coverings, but these rugs by Santa-Fe designer Gary Coles-Christensen are an exception. This week Gary launched Desi, a new brand with an online shop where you can browse and buy rugs online. Desi offers designs by Y Murata, Todd Scalise, Victoria Price, and Gary himself. The product showings are accompanied with personal descriptions from Gary along with his charming pen and ink drawings inspired by his trips to historical weaving capitals of the world like Turkey, Morocco, and India. Better yet, each Desi carpet carries the GoodWeave label, certifying that it was woven without the use of child labor.
New Website Up!
I'm still working on switching over the domain from my old site to typeographics.com, but the site is up and ready to go. Will most likely be adding some images/information in the next few days and hopefully some more items will be going into the store but feel free to check out the beta site here.
I want these things...
So last week I signed on an apartment in Somerville, MA, right up the street from my studio. I cannot WAIT to move and am in total nesting mode, searching and dreaming of items for my new home! Today I discovered these fun finds in the vast world of Etsy. May have to order or recreate them myself, like this handmade wooden wall vase by Old New Again or this
turquoise distressed wooden bread box from Turquoise Rollerset. Also loving this soap dispenser made from a recycled Ball Jar by Midwest Finds and this pair of balsam fir sachets by Sewn Natural.
Sol Lewitt
So I'm back from a week long getaway to the Berkshires, refreshed and inspired. We took a trip over to Mass MoCA where we saw an exhibit by Sol Lewitt. An incredible artist and thinker, Lewitt created the majority of his works through instructions that spelled out how to create his wall drawings, relying on others to create the work for him. This exhibit will be on display for the next 25 years, so be sure to check it out!

Heading to the Hills!
So this afternoon I'm taking off with 4 of my lady friends to meet up with artist Autumn Ahn to spend a week at a cabin in the woods of western mass. It's hopefully going to be a relaxing, productive, project-filled 7 days of making, printing, reading and dreaming. I'll post pictures for you all when I get back and hopefully have some new items up in the store!

Video up from the Somerfun event!
My dear friend Steve Schinnerer of Paper Fortress Films just finished editing the footage from Somerville Local First's SOMERFUN event that happened in June. It was a street fair that was geared towards promoting local businesses and building a community. Despite the rain that day, it was a really great time. I was fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to brand the event and design some shirts and merchandise. Thanks to all who came out!

Seriously??
I am all for new product development but this seems a little ridiculous...

This is a real device, sold exclusively in Japan and is priced at ¥19,950, or a whopping $231. It is intended to keep your watermelon cool while you transport it from the market to your home. While I do love cold melon, I'm going to have to say thanks, but no thanks.

Because I am a woman, I must make unusual efforts to succeed. If I fail, no one will say, "She doesn't have what it takes." They will say, "Women don't have what it takes."

Spent all day scouring my local thrift store to find some lovely items to offer you. Online store coming soon. Check back in the near future to see if it's open!
Brilliant example of marketing:
Account executives Dave Kuta and Michael Girts paired up with a creative team to devise a gutsy alternative marketing plan daring LeBron James to come and play for the Chicago bulls. They sent him these shoes in conjunction with several other ploys daring him to live up to the legacy that sports icon Michael Jordan left in basketball history.

That's a pretty tough promotion to pass up. You can read the whole story here.

Design for Web 2.0
So I stumbled across this article today regarding colorful logos and how great it is that logo designers are veering away from one or two color logos these days. And in the mix there were some very clever logos, like this anbigram for Odigo:

or this logo for Illusion Studio:

But most of these logos are just uninspired, overdecorated and thoughtless. They "work" because they're colorful and bright and make people "ooh" and "aah". But they all look the same. Personally, I'm getting sick of the overly ornate, gradient rich graphics that seem to
define Web 2.0.

Photoshop, anyone?

Interesting finds...
Spent a couple hours thrifting yesterday and found some items that made me stop and look for a long, long time. None of them were particularly attractive but each item had been made with so much time and love you had to appreciate them.

This purse was made entirely out of shopping bags. Someone took the time to knot them all together and the craftsmanship was pretty meticulous. The lining was hot glued in.
.jpg)
It took me a while to figure out what this was. Baby hanger? Cat hammock? I'm pretty sure it was intended for a large plant. (My mom used to make these back in the day...) Why these macrame monstrosities became a fad is beyond me, although there hasn't been a fad that involved people actually making things since duct tape wallets were popular. Has the average person lost their skill for craft?

And this just made me really happy. This is the only item I actually purchased because for $1, it was just too cute to pass up.
